To understand the genre and concept of what my movie should be, watching clips from comedy, action, and psychological movies will help me. I chose to use the movie Anger Management as the comedy, Gladiator 2 as the action, and To the Bone as the psychological.
The Comedy:
The comedy aspect of this movie allows audiences to understand the feelings that the main character has, the ridiculous accusations of physical violence may even anger the audiences in a way that gives them irony. I appreciate the comedic route and may even include some of the conventions that the genre has, but I do not want to make the entire short film a comedy because it would be harder to create.
The Action:
The action aspect of this movie is incredibly violent, creating fear. The use of violence and combat in the movie makes it interesting. However, this amount of action and violence would be too much for the simple short film that I am trying to create. The gore element would eliminate the emotional aspect that I intend to create with my movie so ditching the action genre would be better for my short film.
The Psychological:
The psychological aspect of this film creates a very emotional feeling for audiences, especially since the characters speak down on the world and their thoughts, using reverse psychology. I love the psychology in the movie, especially since I want to create a movie that accurately represents how people struggle today.
In the end, I lean towards the psychological and comedic genres more than the action genre, but I want to do a psychological drama movie because it would represent my main character better than another genre.
