Blog Post #6: Film Festivals

Since I'm doing a short film, I want to research the film festivals near me. Some film festivals in Florida are "Love Your Shorts Film Festival", "Florida Film Festival", and the "Gasparilla International Film Festival". All of these festivals specifically show short films to their audiences at the festivals. Most of these festivals offer awards for the winners. These awards can make people want to participate and showcase their short films that they believe are their best creation.

The "Love Your Shorts" film festival specifically shows short films under 30 minutes long with films separated into "blocks." These blocks are specific genres for audiences who may enjoy horror over comedy. The audience members vote for their favorite films and the winning films for each block are reviewed by judges to determine the overall winner. Individual block winners receive $500 and a piece of artwork while the overall winner receives an art piece along with $1,500.

The "Florida Film Festival" is known as a festival that qualifies you for an Oscar. Winners of the categories in Live Action, Documentary, and Animation will qualify to enter the Academy Awards. This festival is known to be a more serious film festival, shown by their 35 years of past experiences showcasing short films.

The "Gasparilla International Film Festival" has been going on for 19 years. Their awards are category based, and they are Grand Jury awards. There's not much information on this festival, but it's based in Tampa Bay and they even have specific rewards for Florida productions, high school competitions, and individual performances.

Overall, I think that I would want to participate in a festival like the "Love Your Shorts Festival." It seems like the most fun to me, and there are many categories so I would not have to change the way that my film comes off as. However, all of these festivals are prestigious and I would enjoy all of them if there was a chance to.
