To understand how audiences would come across an Instagram account for my short film, I will be researching how social media works and how advertising for films on social media works as well.
On Instagram, ads make up a large portion of the app. Most ad accounts make up 20% or more of a person's feed on Instagram. Film studios often spend a lot of money for advertisements on social media, and it's because there is 3 billion users on Instagram alone. Film marketing budgets have a portion of their money that solely goes towards social media due to how many users there are.
As an audience member myself, there has been many times where I've discovered a movie through social media. When a person watches an ad for an interesting new movie, it intrigues them and eventually they watch the movie. While I may forget about the movie for a while if I don't buy movie tickets, I still end up finding it on social media again a week later.
Trailers and advertisements for movies influence many audiences to watch their movies. Which is why big film companies as well as smaller ones market through social media- to gain audience members.
