Blog Post #49: Changes in Story

Due to my actant becoming recently unavailable, I've decided to change my story. To create more of a mental effect on the film and keep the psychological drama alive, I will be using cross-cutting and parallel editing with two different actors. For example, I want to include a scene where it cuts between two actors who are doing the same thing, like deja vu.

I believe that using two actors to do the same kind of actions will give my film more depth in the psychological aspect. To replace my main actor, I'm going to cast my extras. So, now there are two main characters in my film. This is because in order to illustrate the exact idea of a "multidimensional story" I will need two characters.

Due to the change of plans, I will be filming one of my main characters at an educational building while I film the other main character in a home. I want to keep the idea of the two parents arguing to create conflict in the plot, but now the plot has changed from just struggling with mental health to struggling with mental health in a way where the main character has essentially split their personality. Splitting the main character's personality like this will intrigue audience members, and it will fit into the psychological drama genre more due to the stressful situations regarding changing identities. The idea of changing personalities when leaving the house is also something that audience members could relate to because when you disguise your true self, it's called "masking." I believe that incorporating this small fact will benefit my film because audience members can find similarities between themselves and the character.

I enjoy this new plot better because I think it will be extremely interesting for audience members to watch, especially since no other short film has been like mine. There are also a lot of eye-catching elements that will come off as personal towards my target audience.
